Intravitreal Injection (IVT)
Intravitreal injection is an invasive medical procedure allowing immediate intraocular concentrations of active ingredients to be obtained while reducing the risk of systemic side effects. This mode of administration addresses the challenges associated with the limited ocular penetration of many pharmaceutical compounds.
This rapid gesture nevertheless meets significant asepsis and safety measures. It is carried out under topical anesthesia (anesthetic eye drops) under strict aseptic conditions.
Main indications
- Exudative age-related macular degeneration (anti-VEGF: ranibizumab, aflibercept, brolucizumab, faricimab)
- Maculopathy or diabetic retinopathy
- Retinal vein occlusions
- Non-infectious inflammations of the back of the eye
- Endophthalmitis
